Today saw the launch of London’s first action plan to restore the capital’s rivers and create a better place for people and wildlife. Matthew Blumler attended on behalf of QWAG.

With the aim of restoring 15 kilometres of Thames tributaries by 2015, the London Rivers Action Plan (LRAP) has been built in partnership by the Greater London Authority, Environment Agency, Natural England and voluntary organisations. The main tool will be an interactive London Rivers Action Plan website, maintained by the River Restoration Centre, which will contain a database of restoration opportunities, advice and information, as well as best practice examples.

When the website was demonstrated, it came as no surprise that one of two potential projects highlighted (Colfe’s Playing Fields) and both best practice examples (Chinbrook Meadows and Sutcliffe Park) were Quaggy-based projects.
