Lewisham is London borough of culture 2022. 54 years ago much of the borough was hit by the Great Flood of 1968.

All of this is part of Lewisham Under Water QWAG’s project with Lewisham Council for In Living Memory, Goldsmiths’ University of London’s post WWII people’s history of life in Lewisham borough.
The threat of flooding hasn’t gone away. If anything, flood risk is rising as climate change continues to be talked about but not acted on, as green spaces are lost to development, and as hard surfacing replaces more front gardens across the borough.
