QWAG’s work has been described by the Government as a “great example of environmental action”.

The Government features QWAG’s work as a best practice example of how to create ‘sustainable communities’ on its Homes and Communities Agency website.

Drawing on examples from across the UK, the Government states that:

“By championing the river’s natural role, QWAG aims to reduce flood risk, improve the urban realm, restore wildlife and create opportunities for recreation and learning….it demonstrates the value of community involvement both in finding solutions to their problems.”

“The improvement of the River Quaggy is a great example of environmental action. As well as improving the environment, the scheme to reduce flooding while improving the River Quaggy includes a number of lessons for making places great.”

A boost for QWAG

It is great for QWAG’s work to be showcased nationally. Communities and councils around the country can now learn from QWAG’s work to restore rivers’ natural role in helping to help revive areas, prevent flooding and attract wildlife.

This recognition is a real boost as QWAG recovers from the unexpected death last summer of our Chairman, Ray Manchester. It is a tribute to Ray and all QWAG members past and present.
