To the source of the Quaggy

It’s hot. It’s Wimbledon men’s singles final day. And we’re off to the source of the River Quaggy.

Here the Quaggy flows in ways it can only dream of later on in built up Greenwich and Lewisham.

But it’s an inauspicious start. At Locksbottom, a stone’s throw from Princess Royal University Hospital at Farnborough, the closest we get to the source of the Quaggy on this walk is to see it rushing by beneath a man-hole cover.

Things get better as the river reaches open ground.

You’d never know you were just a few miles from Bromley town centre or the hustle and bustle of Lewisham.

The river ambles through dappled shade, flows through fields of grazing horses and trickles behind people’s homes where some treat it as a feature – with or without gnomes.
