Before summer slips away, thanks to all who helped with this year’s 3RiversCleanUp (3RCU), the largest community river clean-up of its kind.

For the 7th successful year, we and partners helped people get into their local rivers to see things from the rivers’ perspective.

And of course to help remove the invasive non-native species, Himalayan Balsam, which can stop other plant species from growing on the river banks and can also undermine the river banks themselves.

We removed large swathes of Balsam in Manor Park and near Manor House Gardens in Lewisham. There were also reports of large stands of Giant Hogweed in the Croydon stretch.

Bulky rubbish was also removed where possible to also stop that from blocking up the rivers and allowing them to function as naturally as they can.

Where we saw Japanese knotweed we reported this to people qualified to inject it safely.
