QWAG meeting – Prams, shopping trollies & trash screens, Jack Hayes and Stuart Rapson

May 16 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Shopping trolley in River Qwaggy

Wednesday 16th May

Prams, shopping trollies and trash screens: the restored River Quaggy in Sutcliffe Park with the Environment Agency’s Jack Hayes and Stuart Rapson.

Sutcliffe Park is where QWAG first persuaded the authorities to back proper river restoration instead of insisting on keeping our rivers out of sight in underground concrete culverts.

This led to the River Quaggy being brought above ground in 2004 to flow naturally once again and help create a woodland wetland that’s bring nature back – even developers promote their nearby housing on the back of our river restoration efforts.

There have been problems in the park though, and the Environment Agency is making changes to improve the river’s flow and to capture more of the waste that still comes down the river channel.

The Environment Agency will present on how its plans are making the most of the restoration QWAG secured many years ago.
